The success of the 20th Century Hungarian Cinema series second film, “Merry-Go-Round”

On 31 August, the Embassy of Hungary screened „Merry-Go-Round”, directed by Zoltán Fábri from 1956. The event was also the second of our „20th Century Hungarian cinema series” showcasing films from each decade to our New Zealand audience. To make the experience more enjoyable, the Embassy asked our friend and Hungarian cinematography enthusiast, Mr. Paul Hellyer to kick off the screenings with a short scene setter covering the films themselves, the context surrounding their making, including stories about the directors and actors. Further films of the series to be screened at the Embassy later in the year:

  • Szegénylegények / Roundup – Miklós Jancsó (1965)
  • Sinbad / Szindbád – Zoltán Huszárik (1971)
  • Diary for My Children / Napló gyermekeimnek – Márta Mészáros (1984)
